Why
should you consider advanced GD&T training and certification for your designers and
engineers?
Its very simple. Through our experience in
mechanical design weve found that proper selection of Datum Features and proper
application of tolerancing makes parts that WORK, while improper Datum Feature selection,
alone, yields designs that have to be WORKED ON for months before they can be economically
manufactured, assembled and sold to the customer. We believe that effective and economical
product design and manufacture can only be accomplished when all design teams within a
manufacturing organization apply the ASME Y14.5M-1994 Standard uniformly and
collaboratively at the beginning of the design cycle. If you want to stay ahead of your
competition it is essential that your designs are created with full consideration to
manufacturability, assemblability and function. Understanding of and adherence to the ASME
Y14.5M-1994 Standard allows you to do this easily and efficiently.
What makes us different:
All-American Training has developed a method for
teaching the ASME Y14.5M-1994 Standard that is unique in the industry. Other training
vendors make the assumption that their students already understand Datums and Datum
Features, the importance of proper Datum Feature Selection, methods of indicating features
to be toleranced, different methods of tolerancing, the shapes of the tolerance zones
specified by the Geometric Characteristic Symbols and all the dozens of associated rules.
Believing that their students already understand these essential basic concepts, they
immediately begin to teach methods for calculating fits. How can you calculate a fit when
you dont understand the shape of the tolerance zone? How can you calculate feature
locations when you dont understand where to begin measuring?
While the ultimate goal of any standard GD&T course is to enable the student to
calculate feature sizes, tolerances and fits of mating parts, we do not believe this can
be done effectively until the student understands the basic concepts, rules and symbols.
We build a pyramid of knowledge, with the basic concepts at the bottom, and the ability to
perform calculations of fit, wall thickness and bonus tolerances at the top. The peak of
knowledge is supported by a broad base of understanding. Using this method, the student
understands not only HOW to calculate, but WHY the calculation is necessary and what other
factors may affect the result.
Our flagship course covers a wider range of understanding of the GD&T standard than
any other weve seen. Students can come to the class with very little knowledge of
the Standard and complete the course with a very firm foundation in GD&T. Weve
trained several engineers who were fresh out of college who have taken and passed the ASME
GD&T Certification Exam (Technologist Level) within a few weeks of completing the
course, not having had any previous experience in applying the standard on the job. You
might say they went from zero to Hero within three months.
With other training vendors you may sit in a hotel conference room for three days having
knowledge pumped into your head, then return to your job and begin trying to extract
essential details from what has become a foggy blur of over-compressed data in your mind.
We provide our training over a much broader time frame, stretching it out from a few days
to several weeks. Weve found this method allows students to more completely absorb
the material and to begin applying it to their jobs during the training period. They
attend shorter training sessions, allowing them to remain alert and better able to retain
details of the training. From the perspective of the employer, the student is available to
perform job functions 4-1/2 days a week during training, causing less interruption of work
flow, rather than being absent from the job for three days or more, depending on whether
travel to a seminar would have been required.
Class sizes are kept to no more than 15 students. This allows better interaction between
the students and the instructor. It also allows more time to address student questions. We
believe that student questions are an essential part of the learning process for all
students in the class.
We save you money.
Our training courses are priced slightly below the rest
of the market. Not because theyre inferior. Far from it! We believe we provide the
best training available due to the manner in which it is presented and the detail that is
covered in each segment. We save money by using a virtual classroom, rather than by
renting a hotel conference room. We eliminate the travel and lodging expenses youd
incur sending your employees to a seminar in a major city (which is where they are always
presented). We bring our training right to your employees desks where they remain in
a comfortable, familiar environment that allows them to concentrate on learning. We can
offer better class schedule availability because we dont have to wait for a metro
area to offer up a suitable quantity of students to justify the expense and work required
to host a seminar. We can provide training to students from the East and West coasts, from
the Gulf to the Northwest and all points in between during the same class. Classes fill
more quickly and can, therefore be held more frequently. This means more convenient
scheduling for you. Unfortunately, if you want a Continental Breakfast, youll have
to provide it yourself. We believe your training dollars should provide training, not
munchies. Finally, while other companies offer as many as three classes to bring you up to
speed, Basic, Advanced and Certification Prep classes, we believe that your employees can
go from vague familiarity to exam-ready in two months with a combination of a properly
designed and presented training course and some self-study using our materials. We've done
it and we have a number of Technologist and Senior Level GD&T Certified Professionals
as graduates to prove it. We don't believe in charging you three times for the material
you should have gotten the first time.
